How MatchDay Fantasy works

Build a team. Follow the action. Win real prizes. This guide covers everything from scoring to payouts — designed to get you playing with confidence in minutes.

The basics

Build a lineup

Pick 11 players under a $100 salary cap. 1 GK · 4 DEF · 4 MID · 2 FWD · 1 FLEX.

Captain doubles

Choose a captain for 2× points and a vice-captain for 1.5×. Strategy is everything.

Watch live scoring

Goals, assists, cards, and saves update your score in real time as matches play out.

Lineups lock at kickoff

Once the first match begins, your team is locked. No edits. No swaps. Plan ahead.

Climb the leaderboard

Your total fantasy points determine your rank. Top ranks win prizes from the pool.

Get paid

Winnings settle automatically after the final whistle. Prizes hit your wallet in minutes.

Scoring breakdown

Points are awarded for positive actions and deducted for disciplinary events. Position matters: goalkeepers and defenders earn more for goals and clean sheets.

Captain (2×)

Your captain earns double points on every action. If Messi scores a goal as your captain, you get 10 points instead of 5. Pick someone consistent and high-volume.

Vice-Captain (1.5×)

If your captain doesn't play a single minute, your vice-captain is automatically promoted to captain (2×). If both fail to play, you get no multiplier for that spot.

Salary cap strategy

Every player has a price. The challenge is building the best possible team without exceeding the $100 budget.

Aggressive

Stars & scrubs

Spend big on 2–3 elite players and fill the rest with cheap, high-minute role players. High variance, high ceiling.

Steady

Balanced build

Spread your budget evenly across all positions. Reliable floors, less dependency on one player popping off.

Advanced

Contrarian punt

Fade the popular picks. Target undervalued players in favorable matchups. Great for large-field tournaments.

Budget tips

  • Keep $2–$5 in reserve during draft so you can upgrade a position if value appears.
  • Goalkeepers and defenders are usually cheaper — prioritize clean sheet potential.
  • Check the fixture difficulty. A mid-priced forward vs a weak defense often outperforms a star vs a top defense.
  • Avoid players with rotation risk near deadline. Locked lineups cannot be changed.

Guaranteed contests run and pay out the full prize pool even if they don't fill. Non-guaranteed contests may be cancelled if they don't reach the minimum number of entries. If cancelled, you receive a full refund automatically.

Deadlines & lock rules

Timing is everything. Know exactly when your team locks and what you can — and can't — change after that.

Lineup lock

Your lineup locks at the kickoff time of the earliest fixture in the contest. No edits are allowed after this point.

No late swap

Unlike some fantasy platforms, MatchDay Fantasy does not allow late swaps after lock. Set your lineup before the first whistle.

Pre-lock edits

You can edit your lineup as many times as you want before lock. Change captain, swap players, and adjust strategy freely.

Live substitutions

Once a match is live, your players accumulate points in real time. There are no in-game substitutions or bench swaps.

Winner Takes All

Example: 10 players × $10 = $90 to 1st (after rake)

Top 3 Split

1st gets 60%, 2nd gets 30%, 3rd gets 10%. A balanced structure that rewards consistency.

Example: 100 players × $5 = $450 pool → 270 / 135 / 45

Top 5 Spread

Prizes for 1st through 5th. More winners, more fun in larger contests.

Example: Typical split: 40% / 25% / 15% / 12% / 8%

How the prize pool is built

Every entry fee is collected into a single prize pool. We deduct a 10% platform fee (rake) to cover operations, scoring, and development. The remaining 90% is paid out to winners.
